Panda Garras are active, intelligent fish that spend much of their time exploring surfaces throughout the aquarium, grazing on algae, biofilm, and naturally occurring microorganisms. They are known for their curious nature and often become comfortable enough to interact with their surroundings and even their keepers. While generally peaceful, they can establish small territories with their own kind, especially in smaller aquariums, but rarely cause problems when provided with enough space and hiding areas.

These hardy fish thrive in well-maintained aquariums with good water flow, excellent oxygenation, and plenty of surfaces for grazing. Rocks, driftwood, smooth stones, and live plants help recreate their natural river environment while providing enrichment and shelter. Although they consume algae and biofilm, they should be supplemented with a varied diet of algae wafers, spirulina-based foods, sinking vegetable pellets, blanched vegetables such as zucchini and cucumber, and occasional protein-rich foods like frozen bloodworms or brine shrimp. Stable water quality and regular maintenance are essential for their long-term health.
