Otocinclus Catfish (Otocinclus spp.)

The Otocinclus Catfish, often called the "Oto," is a small, peaceful algae-eating fish highly valued for its ability to help keep aquariums clean. With their slender bodies, subtle coloration, and tireless grazing behavior, Otocinclus make an excellent addition to planted aquariums and peaceful community tanks.

Native to the rivers and streams of South America, these social fish thrive when kept in groups of six or more. They spend much of their time grazing on algae, biofilm, and soft plant surfaces, making them one of the most effective natural algae control options for established aquariums. Their gentle temperament allows them to coexist peacefully with a wide variety of small community fish.

Otocinclus are best suited for mature, well-established aquariums with stable water conditions and abundant natural grazing opportunities. In addition to algae, they should be offered supplemental foods such as algae wafers, blanched vegetables, and quality sinking foods to ensure proper nutrition.
